- 요약 본 연구는 해녀에 대한 인식이 고정된 실체가 아니라 사회적, 정치적 욕망에 따라 발견되거나 변화되는 산물임을 전제로, 근·현대기 해녀를 주제로 한 작품에 투영된 시대별 인식의 변화를 추적하는 한편, 소라와 해녀의 작가라 불렸던 부산 1세대 서양화가 임호에게 있어 해녀 도상이 지니는 의미를 살펴보는데 목적이 있다. 실제 조선시대까지 천역의 대상이었던 해녀는 근대기 식민자본주의 영향 아래에서 역경을 이겨내며 때로는 모성애를 자극하는 강한 해녀상의 출현으로 이어졌다. 그런데 임호의 대표적인 작품 중 한 점인 해변에는 이러산 기존의 해녀상과는 차별되는 서정적인 풍토경이 펼쳐진다. 논고는 이 점에 주목하여, 임호 화력에 있어 해녀 도상의 의미를 추적하고자 하였다. 해녀는 임호가 평생을 천착했던 주제였으며, 로컬리티를 넘어 민족적 정서의 발현이기도 했다. 해변에 보이는 강인한 해녀상과는 차별되는 서정적인 향토경은 부산 1세대 서양화가로서 지역 미술과 민족 미술에 대한 고심의 결과였다고 할 수 있다.| This study, on the premise that the perception of Haenyeo is not a fixed entity but a product that is discovered or changed according to social and political desires, traces the changes in perception by era as reflected in works on the theme of Haenyeo in the modern and contemporary era. The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning of the icon of Haenyeo to Lim Ho, who was called the painter of “Conch and Haenyeo.” In fact, Haenyeo, who had been subject to servile labor until the Joseon Dynasty, overcame adversity under the inf luence of colonial capitalism in the modern era, leading to the emergence of strong images of Haenyeo that sometimes stimulated maternal love. However, The Beach, one of Lim Ho's representative works, presents a lyrical landscape that is different from the existing Haenyeo. Paying attention to this point, the paper attempted to trace the meaning of the iconography of Haenyeo in Lim Ho's painting work. Haenyeo were a topic that Lim Ho had been obsessed with throughout his life, and they were also a manifestation of national sentiment beyond locality. It can be said that the lyrical local scene, which is different from the strong Haenyeo statue seen in The Beach, was the result of his consideration of local and national art as a first-generation Western painter in Busan.
