- 요약This book discusses how major changes in society have created significant implications for the delivery of higher education and reveals that it is not possible to educate students with any degree of success while operating under the same assumptions and the same models that were successful in the past. The author shows the significance of nontraditional campuses in urban areas that serve student populations that extend beyond 18 to 22-year-old, full-time students and that also interact with and respond to the needs of surrounding communities. The book is organized into seven chapters. Chapters explore (1) the development and growth of urban campuses; (2) what an urban campus is and how it works within the community; (3) who makes up the New Majority of students; (4) the urban faculty, their challenges and successes; (5) the frustrations and misconceptions related to urban campuses; (6) the ways in which urban colleges and universities play a key role in moving society forward; and (7) the dynamic role urban campuses can play in preparing students for a globally competitive and technologically complex 21st century. An appendix presents an extract from The Tutelar of the Place. Contains an index. (GLR)
